News Release
Outstanding Volunteers Honored By AEC

At the Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC) Annual Meeting last March, two outstanding volunteers were honored during the Volunteer Recognition Ceremony. The 2007Volunteer of the Year award was presented to David Mills of Azon USA, Inc. in
Kalamazoo, Mich. Mills was one of the founding members of the Keep Aluminum Windows (KAW) program.

On behalf of AEC and the KAW program, Mills testified before the U.S. Department of Energy and various code organizations so that the industry's voice would be heard and to create a strong presence. In the presentation, AEC Chairman Craig Werner of Werner Extrusion Solutions, LLC said of Mills, “the KAW program won many hard-fought victories, thanks to Dave's determined efforts. As a supplier to the aluminum extrusion industry whose core business is supplying the commercial and residential aluminum window and door industry, he appreciated the importance of keeping aluminum windows. He realized that any market-share loss by his customers not only affects his business but also impacts everyone. Dave did something about it and made a difference, for the window manufacturers and for our industry.” Although Mills was not able to attend the award dinner, he was presented with the 2007 Volunteer of the Year Award during the AEC Board Meeting earlier in the week.

The 2007 Distinguished Service Award was presented to Emory Schmidt of Brazeway, Inc. in Adrian, Mich. Emory Schmidt has been an active member of the AEC Business Information Committee since 2001 and is the former chairman of that committee.

Schmidt was instrumental in getting the HVAC Task Force started. He was an Independent Extruder Director for the past six years and a Member At Large of the Executive Committee for four of those six years. Werner said of Schmidt, “On the volunteer side, Emory understood the fiduciary aspect of the council and took his responsibility seriously, making him an ideal caretaker of a volunteer organization such as the Aluminum Extruders Council.” Schmidt received a standing ovation from the audience. In his acceptance speech he said he was humbled and grateful to the Council for the recognition and honor.
