San Ramon, Calif., hosts first ABB LVP Roadshow; more than 250 gather to see breadth of automation solutions
The Marriott in the heart of San Ramons industrial park played host to the first 2007 ABB Low Voltage Products Roadshow, held here February 21-22. More than 25 ABB control, drives, instrumentation, process automation, and power technologies products and solutions were on full display. Under the name, Results-Driven Power Control, the Roadshow is scheduled to stop in major regional markets across the U.S. this year.
The more that 250 customers and prospects crowding into the venue on Customer Day also filled up the technical workshops held throughout the day. These workshops offer must-know expertise on a host of automation-related information, ranging from UL and NEC standards, to harmonic mitigation in industrial environments, to PLC installations and efficient, energy-saving, control-panel designs.
Because the population of this market is so dense, there is a tremendous demand for pumping and fan applications, particularly in the water and wastewater industries, noted Jim Hoyt, principal of Harold Wells Associates North, the ABB manufacturers representative based in northern California. There also is light industry in this part of the state, with a concentration of heavier industry further north, serving the mining, paper and timber markets. So the wide range of these products and automation solutions are ideal for this range of market needs.
Inviting Guests to Show Creates Opportunities
Such a market creates a lot of interest in issues related to harmonics and helping utility and government entities and commercial buildings meet codes when they install electrical products and systems, Hoyt noted. The more than 250 customer attendees backed up the argument. We know this market is vibrant and growing, Hoyt said. That came through loud and clear, as we were inviting prospects and customers to this event."
Raymond Landgraf, principal at LGE Electrical Sales, Inc., noted that, in addition to the Roadshow event itself, inviting prospects creates post-show sales-calls opportunities, too. As we were alerting end users, consultants and business owners to register for Customer day, they told us, Please get back in touch with us following your show, because we have applications we are working on, and should talk.
The show also offers visitors a close-up look at a wide berth of low-voltage products, automation, control, and instrumentation solutions as well as the chance to talk with the product experts on all the lines. ABB channel partners and industrial distributors, briefed on all that is new on the first day of the event, are on hand, both in support of customers and prospects, and to introduce attendees to critical additions and expansions they can make to increase the productivity and efficiency of their applications.
The show is designed to be a powerful tool that enables our distributors to make 25-plus sales calls in a single day in a single venue, said Hoyt. And customers can see a wide range of additional ideas and solutions from a vendor they already trust.
The Roadshow, now travels to metro areas in the Midwest, Northeast and the South; see www.abb-events.com for a listing of all shows scheduled for 2007.
